Parodia ottonis is native to South America in South Brazil, Uruguay, North-East Argentina and South Paraguay where it is widespread and grows into subtropical grassland. It has many common names including ‘The Golden-Flowered Ball Cactus’, ‘Lemon Ball’ and ‘Indian Cactus’. This stunning little cactus is classed as a dwarf clumping cactus as it has a clustering growth habit. This plant branches from the base creating many pups that can be used for propagating or left alone to form a large, show stopping clump.

Parodia ottonis has a deep green body with 10-12 well defined ribs that are adorned with rows of areoles, each with many soft white or yellowish coloured spines. A Areole is a specialised structure in cacti and succulents from which spines, hair, flowers, etc grow.

In late spring and summer this little cutie will produce multiple magnificent large, bright yellow flowers. This species is a early bloomer too, meaning that you don’t have to wait long to enjoy these blooms.

☀️This plant requires bright, indirect light but harsh direct sunlight needs to be avoided as this can scorch the leaves.

💧Overwatering can lead to rot, so it's best to allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

〰️These plants don’t have any special requirements when it comes to humidity. Ambient is perfectly fine for these guys.

🌡️Standard room temperatures between 18-24°C are perfect

🍴Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).

✂️A mature plant can be propagated by offsets. Simply remove the offsets or take the cutting of desired length, let them callus and then nestle the base into a well draining potting mix. Avoid watering until the plants have put out some roots. Propagation for this species can also be done by seed.

🪴Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix formulated for cacti and succulents.

(Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour, or shape depending on the season. Flowering plants are sent when available. You will receive a bare rooted plant similar to the ones in the pictures provided.)
