Introducing the stunning thelocactus conothelos, native to parts of Mexico where it grows into lotus shaped shrubland and limestone hills.

It is described as a deep green solitary cylindrical cactus with large bubble like tubercles. To add to the appeal of this cactus it has a stunning burgundy to purple colouring on the tips of each tubercle. On the top of each of these tubercles there is a areole. A Areole is a specialised structure in cacti and succulents from which spines, hair, flowers, etc grow.

Creamy white spines emerge from these areoles in a circular pattern, each areole has 1-4 central spines and 10-16 radial spines. There are numerous  radial spines sit flat horizontal with the body of the plant. While the central spine in each cluster points outwards and is significantly longer in length giving this cactus a very cool look.

There is a dense patch of wooly fluffy called cephalium grows right in the centre of the plant bringing a touch of softness to the spikey plant. Thelocactus conothelos is loved by collectors for its vibrant pink to purple flowers! This plant is easily recognised for its longer, glassy central spines and unique burgundy to purple colouring on the tips of each ridge.

☀️This plant requires bright, indirect light but harsh direct sunlight needs to be avoided as this can scorch the leaves.

💧Overwatering can lead to rot, so it's best to allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

〰️These plants don’t have any special requirements when it comes to humidity. Ambient is perfectly fine for these guys.

🌡️Standard room temperatures between 18-24°C are perfect

🍴Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).

✂️Most propagation for this species is done by seed.

🪴Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix formulated for cacti and succulents.
