Mammillaria gaumeri is a super unique species native to Yucatan, Mexico. In its natural habitat it is considered rare, the area is harsh and unforgiving. It’s scrubby and occasionally floods.

This Mammillaria has a flat and round stem and is a dark green shade with purple hues. The stem is covered in rounded tubercles and at the tip of each tubercle there is areole; an areole is a specialised structure in cacti and succulents from which spines, hair, flowers, etc grow.

Spines emerge from these areoles in a circular pattern. There are numerous  radial spines that are a creamy white shade and sit flat horizontal with the body of the plant. While the central spine in each cluster is black in colour and point outwards giving this cactus a very cool look.

Clusters of a wooly growth called cephalium grow amongst the spines and also in the little spaces between each tubercle. There is a dense patch of this cephalium right in the centre of the plant bringing a touch of softness to the spikey plant.

It produces small flowers that are a creamy white shade with a stunning dark stripe up the mid-vein creating a beauty contrast. Like a lot of Mammillaria these flowers normally appear in numbers as a crow around the apex on the plant. A must have for all collectors!

☀️This plant requires bright, indirect light but harsh direct sunlight needs to be avoided as this can scorch the leaves.

💧Overwatering can lead to rot, so it's best to allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

〰️These plants don’t have any special requirements when it comes to humidity. Ambient is perfectly fine for these guys.

🌡️Standard room temperatures between 18-24°C are perfect

🍴Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).

✂️This plant can be propagated by offsets. Simply remove the offsets, let them callus and then nestle the base into a well draining potting mix. Avoid watering until the plants have put out some roots.

🪴Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix formulated for cacti and succulents.

(Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour, or shape depending on the season. Flowering plants are sent when available. You will receive a bare rooted plant similar to the ones in the pictures provided.)
