These plants can vary in colour from a deep green to blue-green shade. Thelocactus rinconensis ssp rinconensis has on average between 10-16 closely spaced crenate ribs. In the highest points of the ribs there is a areole. A areole is a specialised structure in cacti and succulents from which spines, hair, flowers, etc grow. From these structures long, stiff spines emerge. These spines vary in length and typically first emerge as a red-brown to red colour and will fade to a creamy white. Clusters of a wooly growth called cephalium grow amongst the spines from the areoles as well. There is a dense patch of this cephalium right in the centre of the plant. It produces beautiful, large pink to red-violet flowers that have a yellow throat.

☀️This plant requires bright, indirect light but harsh direct sunlight needs to be avoided as this can scorch the leaves.

💧Overwatering can lead to rot, so it's best to allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

〰️These plants don’t have any special requirements when it comes to humidity. Simply remove the offsets, let them callus and then nestle the base into a well draining potting mix. Avoid watering until the plants have put out some roots. Most propagation for this species is done by seed.

🪴Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix formulated for cacti and succulents.

(Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour, or shape depending on the season.
