This plant is commonly known as the ‘Peruvian Torch’ and referring to its striking, columnar growth. It has stunning blue green stems with marbled variegation all over. The stems are ribbed with rows of vertical areoles spaced out. A areole is a specialised structure in cacti and succulents from which spines, hair, flowers, etc grow. From these structures short, stiff spines emerge in colours ranging from white, to yellow, to red and brown-black. Clusters of a wooly growth called cephalium grow amongst the spines from the areoles as well. This species will get you out at night with a torch trying to catch a glimpse of its large, nocturnal flowers!

☀️This plant requires bright, indirect light but harsh direct sunlight needs to be avoided as this can scorch the leaves.

💧Overwatering can lead to rot, so it's best to allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

〰️These plants don’t have any special requirements when it comes to humidity. Simply remove the offset or cutting of desired length, let them callus and then nestle the base into a well draining potting mix. Avoid watering until the plants have put out some roots. Most propagation for this species is done by seed.

🪴Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix formulated for cacti and succulents.

(Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour, or shape depending on the season.
